Why should you quit smoking? What are the benefits a smoker gets when he quits smoking? An immediate effect would be the loss of nicotine in your body. Your blood pressure returns to normal and your lung function has improved drastically. You sense of smell and taste may also improve. You also breathe easier.

Another benefit is a healthy and lengthier life. This is a very real concern for smokers. More than a million a year someone dies of a smoke related disease. Nearly everyone knows that smoking may cause lung cancer, but did you know that it may also trigger other kinds of cancer too? This would include cancer of the mouth, kidney, stomach and even pneumonia is a disease caused by smoking.

No matter how old you are or how long you’ve smoked, quitting can help you live longer and be healthier. People who stop smoking before age 40 lower their risk of dying in the next 20 years in half compared with those who keep smoking. Ex-smokers enjoy a higher quality of life. This is a known fact. The health benefits of quitting smoking are far greater than any risks from the small weight gain or any emotional or psychological problems that may follow quitting.

You can now detach yourself from your so-called “buddy”, who in fact is betraying your body and inducing you with an addictive drug called nicotine. You have improved your self-image. You are more socially accepted, you no longer have to find a place to smoke and you no longer smell as well.

Curbing your smoking habit will definitely improve your lifestyle. Although quitting can be very tough, with the right amount of determination and commitment, the outcome can be very satisfying. Quitting smoking is hard work at times, especially early on, but dig your feet in and give it all you’ve got. Remind yourself daily about why you want to quit smoking, and picture yourself as a contented ex-smoker, free of the need to light up every hour on the hour.

In truth, the benefits of smoking are unlimited.

This goal is not out of reach, it is doable, and you have the ability to make it happen. It is never too late to quit smoking.
